About This Site

yanbin chronicles is an experimental space. I imagine this to be a "staging area" for my current and future projects. As such, it will always be a work-in-progress. In the current iteration, the only "live" links on this site are connected to "Grandfather Project."

I have three reasons for creating this space. First, I want to demonstrate my commitment to open peer review of scholarly production. I welcome feedback.

Second, I want to experiment with emerging media to tell stories. This is my sandbox.

Third, I have been carrying a couple of the projects in my head for many years. I need a nudge to move them from the concept phase to the implementation phase. That these projects are "up there" on the Internet--along with a promise to chronicle any progress--may just be enough to keep me on task.

I named this site after Yan Bin, founding editor-in-chief of New Chinese Women Magazine, a monthly periodical published by a small band of dedicated Chinese feminists in Tokyo, Japan, between 1907 and 1908. Yan Bin is a role model.
